Manly Wade Wellman (1903-1986) was an author best known for his fantasy and horror stories set in the Appalachian Mountains. He was born in Angola, where his father was a physician at a British medical outpost. He later moved to the United States and was educated at Wichita Municipal University (now Wichita State University) in Kansas and Columbia Univeristy.
